About the Tararua Forest

Tararua Forest Park, also known as The Goblin Forest is 116,535 hectares of land stretching from the Rimutakka Saddle in the south to the Manawatu Gorge with its highest peak at 1571 metres high. The Forest used to be the range where all the permanent Māori settlements used to live, who of which established routes through the terrain which have still remand to this day for the many hikers and trampers who wish to explore. Tararua Forest was made into a National Park in 1952 therefore all the flora and fauna is also under protection this has made it a lot easier for the creatures to also establish their villages deep into the forest and still remain hidden due to the limited amount of people who trek up the mountain ranges. The forest is the perfect spot for the the Gobins, Orcs, Dwarves and any other creature to live as most of the  forest is Overgrown especially off the pathways this means their homes are usually undisturbed although the warriors and Akahata are always on the look out for trampers who may be lost and stumble upon their hidden world. Below are images of some of the animals and plants you may stumble upon when venturing through the Forest and what makes this forest truly unique is the trees found there which twist and turn just like in a Tim Burton movies, the sight is so beautiful especially when all the foliage is in bloom. When weary travellers visit the forest only a special few have been lucky enough to view the tiny world of the Goblins which is why it has become the story of legend among the Māori tribes folk.
