Akahata
Taniwha - 'tanifa
Akahata is a Taniwha which is a Dragon like creature which typically lives in deep pools in rivers, caves or in the sea. He is over 2000 years old and the name Akahata means Supreme in Māori, he is also well known in New Zealand for for being a fierce beast towards those who threaten his or his villagers lives. Akahata is a highly respected Kaiticki (protective guardian) of the creatures who live in the Tararua Forest. Akataha communicates with the Priest of Tararua, due to the priest being a medium because unfortunately the Taniwha cannot speak but can communicate telepathically in the native language of Māori. The spikes which litter his head and spine are protective for if he comes into conflict with any other beasts or not so friendly Taniwha. Although Akahata can be friendly creature, do not get too comfortable as he can attack any second with his ability to breath fire or his sharp claws.
