Kaihautu

Kaihauta is the leader of the village in Tararua Forest his names means Leader or a person with leadership qualities, he is 151 years old and his ancestors descended from the Long Eared bat which is actually native to the United kingdom. The only language that he speaks is Māori which is the Eastern Polynesian language spoken in New Zealand, as his family established the village in the Forest and this is the only language in which they have spoken for centuries. Although Kaihautu cannot communicate with Akahata they work very closely together protecting the village. Kaihautu is known by other tribes in New Zealand due to his great leadership and generosity, he is also responsible for keeping the village a secret from humans who may hike through Tararua and up the mountains as the tribe are well known in New Zealand legends but very few humans have witnessed the creatures with their own eyes. Although the forest can be dangerous so very few humans will journey through the thick bushes and trees.
